The Cannon YMCA Unveils New Leadership Plan

The Cannon YMCA welcomes three executive team members while enhancing its operational focus.

[Concord, NC], (January 27, 2017) – Recently, the Cannon YMCA introduced a few new faces, while realigning two very familiar faces into new roles.

Effective October 1, 2016, Brent Rockett, formerly the Executive Director of the West Cabarrus Branch at Afton Village, assumed the association-wide role of Senior Director of Operations for the Cannon Memorial YMCA. Florida executive Yolanda Pitchford replaced Rockett as Executive Director of the West Cabarrus Branch. Sarah McLellan moved from the University of Connecticut Foundation to join the team as Director of Development and Community Engagement, an association-wide assignment.

Rockett, Pitchford, McLellan, Crosby and Belfield, respectively.

Effective February 13, 2017, Brett Crosby, most recently the Executive Director of the Kannapolis Branch, will assume the position of Executive Director of the Harrisburg Branch, with Philip Belfield coming from the Richmond County YMCA in Virginia to assume the role of Executive Director of Kannapolis. Brent, Yolanda, Sarah, Brett and Philip will report to Chief Executive Officer Ron Davis.

In his new role, Rockett supports branch executive directors and other staff by overseeing all third-party agreements, major maintenance issues and asset purchases. A 12-year veteran of the YMCA movement, Rockett has been at the Cannon Y since 2007, serving as Managing Director of the Harrisburg Branch before assuming his most recent role. Rockett is a graduate of Appalachian State University and resides in Kannapolis with his wife Barbara and their 6-year old son, Liam.

Pitchford is a 10-year veteran of YMCAs in Virginia and Florida, most recently serving as District Executive Director for the Roper and Wayne Densch Branches of the YMCA of Central Florida, headquartered in Orlando. Pitchford and husband Gregg, a banking professional, moved to the area to be near their daughter Alexis, a freshman and point guard on UNC Greensboro’s women’s basketball team. Pitchford is a graduate of the University of Richmond and earned her MBA from Strayer University.

A 2013 graduate of the University of Connecticut, McLellan was most recently Assistant Director of Development for the School of Business at the University of Connecticut Foundation. In that role, she learned that donors transform an organization when they are engaged in the programs they support. To complement her undergraduate degrees in English and Psychology, McLellan was enrolled in the MBA program at UConn and is continuing her studies at UNC Charlotte. She currently lives in Charlotte and plans to relocate to Concord next year.

Brett Crosby, a familiar face at the Kannapolis Y, is a 15-year veteran of Cannon YMCA. After starting at the Y as Sports Assistant, he quickly assumed growing leadership roles and has been the Executive Director of the Kannapolis Branch for over eight years. Brett has sincerely enjoyed being a part of the Kannapolis community that he grew up in and looks forward to relocating to Harrisburg with his wife Kim, and sons Carter and Grant.

Philip Belfield comes to the Cannon Y from the Richmond County YMCA. During his 14 years there, he grew youth programming exponentially and gained a significant amount of fundraising experience through capital and annual support campaigns. Philip is relocating to Kannapolis with his wife Donna and three children – Pierce, Kaylyn and Canon. Philip and his family are heavily involved in sports and theater, and enjoy being part of their church family. Philip looks forward to continuing the mission of the YMCA that has such a rich history in Kannapolis, while addressing critical needs in the area.

“I enthusiastically support the new management structure as a direct answer to the Cannon Y’s strategic goals,” said Donor Development Committee Chairman of the Board, Bill Hubbard. “Our commitment is to make the Y a welcoming place, where the Cabarrus Community can enjoy a quality, well-kept environment, while receiving service from ‘world-class’ staff. The new roles for Brent, Yolanda, Sarah, Brett and Philip speak directly to this commitment and we are thankful to have them as part of our team.”
