The Y is proud to offer a variety of Active Older Adults programs committed to helping seniors maintain a healthy lifestyle and strengthen social ties. Participants in the program enjoy group outings, health education seminars, group fitness classes, volunteer opportunities and events designed to promote mental agility, good health and independence. Basic daily exercise provides many health benefits and may decrease illness, chronic disease, fatigue and the risk of falling.

Try this increasingly popular sport that provides a great workout while offering a very social and competitive game.
About the Game
Pickleball is a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong. It is played on a court the same size as a doubles badminton court and measures 20 feet wide and 44 feet long. The court is used for both singles and doubles play. The net height is 36 inches at the sidelines and 34 inches in the middle. The game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced game for experienced players.
When playing pickleball, each player uses a pickleball paddle, which is smaller than a tennis racquet but larger than a ping-pong paddle. Next is the pickleball. The ball itself is unique. It is a perforated plastic ball with holes through it like a wiffle ball. There are different ball models intended for indoor and outdoor play. The ball travels at 1/3 the speed of a tennis ball and is usually white or yellow in color.
