Climbing fosters communication, creates a need for participants to work together and builds self-esteem and personal confidence, bringing out the best in each participant.
Available during West Cabarrus Teen Center hours, the wall features several challenging routes and a climbing ladder in a safe, monitored environment. All participants must sign a Rock Climbing Waiver and parents must sign for youth under the age of 18.
What is belaying?
Belay means to protect or provide safety. The climber has a stable base as someone on the ground uses their own body weight along with ropes, harnesses, anchors and other devices as an anchor. In the event of a slip by the climber, the belay device locks and prevents a fall. A Y staff member is always present in the rock climbing area to belay for climbers, ensuring their safety.
