Meet Matt and Stacie Hopes
Matt and Stacie Hopes have been connected to the YMCA their whole lives. They both started swim lessons at their home YMCA – Lake County YMCA in Lake County, Ohio – at a very young age. Matt recalls receiving his first paycheck ever from the Y, at $5/hour for his summer job. Stacie’s mother worked at the Y too, and at age 17, Stacie began working at the Front Desk and helping out where she was needed. By this time, Matt was going on his sixth year in the Leaders Club and helped Stacie through her new-hire paperwork.
Meet Fred and Phyllis Marodin
Fred and Phyllis Madorin, two Active Older Adults, can often be found at the Harrisburg YMCA. After moving to Harrisburg almost two years ago, they have found the Cannon Y to be a place where many people from the community gather, form friendships and work together to achieve their health goals.
They moved to Harrisburg to be closer to their adult children and grandchildren. Just before Christmas, they welcomed their first great-grandchild into the world. Most recently from St. Louis, the Madorins have lived in Indiana, eastern and western Pennsylvania and traveled the world. One thing they noticed since moving to Cabarrus County, is that there is truly a culture of respect, neighborly duty and community. This culture, Phyllis and Fred explain, is mirrored in everything the Y does.
